Hi! As I saw that I have English-speaking readers, I'll try to translate an article. My English level is not perfect so be patient please. I hope you like it and thanks for reading me!
The cheap and effective solution is the hydrogen peroxide.
As chemistry is magic that works and the personal and home cleaning is dominated by the chemical industry, this fact have a cientific explanation. Here it comes:
You surely have hydrogen peroxide in your first aid kit but... have you ever asked yourself why does it desinfect injuries? This chemical product is very inestable and tends to decompose and create water and oxygen through the next chemical reaction:
(This is the moment when you go running to hug your mom for all the times she told you "don't let hydrogen peroxide uncovered, it will evaporate!").
¿Already you went? Ok, then I keep writing...
If you remember what you learned at school, the most of germs are anaerobic, which means that they live without oxygen. In the upper reaction, we can see that hydrogen peroxide gives oxygen constantly and, thanks to that, provides the germ from a milieu where it can't live... it's like we humans try to breathe water! That is the reason why we use peroxide to desinfect injuries: we are trying to kill germs.
But I haven't talk about blood yet. Here we go:
Blood contains an enzyme called catalase. Catalase, like any other enzyme, increases reaction speed. This enzyme in particular increases the hydrogen peroxide descomposition (the reaction written before). In this process is altered hemoglobin (the protein that gives red colour to the blood), which discolors and leaves our pants like new.
To finish, I leave a home experiment:
1. Put blood into a clean glass (you can obtain it by unfreezing meat).
2. Add hydrogen peroxide.
In this moment you'll see bubbles (they are oxygen bubbles).
3. Approach a match to the glass carefully.
This is a verification step, we use it to verify the presence of oxygen. If there is oxygen, you'll approach the flame to the glass and the glass will ignite.
I hope you liked this post, and next time you have a stain you'll know that there is no better stain remover than hydrogen peroxide (and the best thing is that you have it in your first aids kit!).
